Executive summary

Turn oversight into a control function.

Client-side governance was the weakest readiness gap in the study. Governance and responsiveness rated 3.51 of 10 in Akholi’s Outsourcing 2026: Agentic AI and Tier 1 Financial Institutions study. That gap became a damaging issue in 87 of 150 engagements in the study. The gap sits inside the bank rather than the vendor. This master class gives a bank the control function agentic outsourcing requires: ownership, decision rights over agent autonomy, human oversight, and CORAL discipline across the lifecycle.

The class is a hybrid workshop that uses students’ engagements throughout the course. Students will address governance and oversight challenges specific to their engagements throughout the two days. The class’s output is a board-defensible plan to improve governance, oversight, and risk management across all student engagements.

Outcomes

What you will learn.

  • Read the study’s evidence on why client-side governance decides outcomes.
  • Run the governance, oversight, and risk-management function: what each is, and what each looks like in practice.
  • Apply AI-specific controls and human oversight to agentic work.
  • Audit an engagement, its processes, and its outputs against CORAL obligations.
Curriculum

The curriculum.

1 · Why Governance Decides Outcomes

The study’s evidence on client-side governance and the cost of the gap. The Governance and responsiveness category was a damaging issue in 87 of 150 engagements included in the study.

2 · The Governance, Oversight, and Risk Function

What each function is, and what each looks like in practice: single ownership, a board mandate, and the decision rights the bank must hold.

3 · Decision Rights over Agent Autonomy

What an agent may do without human approval. Clarity on that question was the weakest terminal condition in the study, with a score of 2.16 out of 10 on canceled engagements.

4 · Human Oversight as a Control Function

Establish effective human-led governance and control over agent processing and outputs. Establish best practices in establishing, auditing, and validating agentic AI operational guardrails.

5 · CORAL Auditing

Auditing an engagement, its processes, and its outputs against Compliance, Oversight, Regulatory, and Legal obligations.

In the room

How the class works, and what you leave with.

The class is action-consultative. Each student submits engagement materials before the class. Akholi analyzes them in advance. Every concept is taught through the students’ own engagements. Students do the work in the room, on live issues in their own portfolios.

Each student leaves with a board-defendable governance action plan for the engagement they brought. The plan is built in the room and structured for the board.

Optionally, pre-course vendor interviews can further explore the governance, oversight, and risk-related dynamics specific to each engagement, and Phil Hatch is available to assist with post-class activation of any governance, oversight, and risk management action plans the class creates.
